What the hell – we’re going to do it anyway …

… because absolutely everything has to be regulated, doesn’t it?

First kindly look at this pdf – no excerpts this time:

125114805-RC-Draft-Royal-Charter-12-February-2013

Well, maybe one:
no power but power

OK, look at page 8 as to whom they’re appointing the Chair. Now, for a start, you can’t appoint someone a Chair – it’s an inanimate object you sit on – but let’s not dwell on that.

It’s Baron Brown of Eaton-under-Heywood. Wiki:

In 2011, Brown gave a concurring judgment in R v Gnango[4] in which he stated that “[t]he general public would be astonished and appalled if in those circumstances the law attached liability for the death only to the gunman who actually fired the fatal shot.”[5] The decision of the Supreme Court and Brown’s judgment in particular were criticised by former Lord Justice of Appeal the Rt Hon. Sir Richard Buxton QC and Dr Jonathan Rogers, Senior Lecturer in Laws at University College London, for tenuous reasoning in an attempt to mollify public opinion.

Sigh.

As mentioned elsewhere on the blogosphere, section 4.1 is a doozy.

    “e) “news-related material” means:
    i. news or information about current affairs;
ii. opinion about matters relating to the news or current affairs; or
iii. gossip about celebrities, other public figures or other persons in the news.”

So after all that what is current affairs? What is news? Who are celebs.

Is twitter going to be caught by it as it publishes the tweets of people who are talking about people in the “news”. Is every single blogger going to be caught as they give their opinions about matters in the “news”.

Two examples. Horse meat and Reg Turnill (BBC space journalist who just died). They are both news. One is more about affairs that are current than the other. Is any website that mentions either of the two caught or only if they talk about horse meat.

And who is going to make the decision about every single article as it’s being published when they are thousands of articles being published every day in the UK alone.

A totally unworkable law designed by people who don’t work and who have no concept of working. A stupid law written by stupid people for stupid reasons.

And a law which can be stymied by flooding it with cases.

or it will spawn an automated Fixed Penalty Notice system as with driving offenses.

Got to keep the revenue coming in… Section 11. Money. Note that the Treasury will only be funding this for the first 3 years…
